Shawn K. Acheson, Ph.D. Traumatic Brain Injury: Patterns of Recovery Across the Spectrum: Implications for future planning
Dr. Acheson provides clinical and forensic neuropsychological services throughout central and western North Carolina. As a member of the Forensic Psychiatry Associates in the Department of Psychiatry, he provides neuropsychological evaluations in both criminal and civil court proceedings.
In his lab, he oversees the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of experiments on a variety of topics in the area of behavioral neuroscience and behavioral pharmacology. The two primary areas of focus include traumatic brain injury and the neurodevelopmental effects of drugs of abuse (e.g., alcohol and marijuana). Dr. Acheson collaborates with labs at Duke and the Durham VA that address Alzheimer's Disease, PTSD, & Gulf War Syndrome.
Dr. Acheson has been conducting forensic evaluations, independent medical evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations, pre-employment evaluations, and civil capacity evaluations for more than 10 years. Forensic work has included service to criminal, civil, and administrative courts.
